Pubs With Kids Play Areas in Orpington

If you run a digital marketing agency, you quickly learn the value of a good ROI. But if you run a digital marketing agency and have a wife and two energetic kids, your definition of ROI fundamentally changes. It no longer stands for Return on Investment; it stands for Release Of Infant energy.

As a working parent in Orpington, I have perfected the delicate weekend art form known as "The Pub Garden Survival Strategy." The goal is simple: find an establishment where the adults can sit down, enjoy a decent pint or a rum and Coke, and have an uninterrupted sentence, while the children safely burn off enough steam to guarantee an early bedtime.

Fortunately for us, Orpington and its surrounding villages are blessed with some fantastic family-friendly pubs. As someone who frequents these spots with my family (and occasionally uses the outdoor tables as a satellite office), here are three proper local pubs with kids' play areas that deliver a 10/10 return on parenting sanity.

1. The Chelsfield (Chelsfield)

Located right by Chelsfield station, The Chelsfield is an absolute lifesaver for local families.

The standout feature here—aside from the exceptionally warm welcome from the staff—is their brilliantly enclosed, family-friendly pub garden equipped with a fantastic children’s play frame. It is sturdy, safe, and positioned perfectly so you can keep a watchful eye over your little daredevils without having to physically hover over them like a micro-managing project director.

While the kids are busy conquering the climbing frame, my wife and I can actually relax with a cold drink and tackle the food menu. The pub grub here is classic, comforting, and unfussy—exactly what you need after a long week. Plus, because of its location, it’s an effortless stop after a weekend family outing.

2. The Rose & Crown (Green Street Green)

If you’re looking for a spacious garden with plenty of room for the kids to let loose, The Rose & Crown in Green Street Green is a fantastic choice.

This pub boasts a massive outdoor garden area that feels like a local sanctuary on a sunny afternoon. The play area gives the kids a dedicated zone to play, climb, and make instant best friends with other local youngsters. What’s great about The Rose & Crown is the sheer scale of the outdoor space—even on a busy summer Sunday, you never feel crammed in.

From a marketing perspective, they’ve nailed the "community hub" vibe. The menu has plenty of crowd-pleasers for picky little eaters, the Sunday roasts are proper, and there’s enough space for the kids to run around without you worrying about them bumping into someone's Sunday afternoon quiet pint.

3. The Bulls Head (Pratts Bottom)

Tucked away in the picturesque village of Pratts Bottom, The Bulls Head offers that quintessential country pub charm just minutes away from central Orpington.

This historic gem features a glorious, sprawling garden complete with a great play area that keeps children entertained for hours. Surrounded by green fields and village charm, it feels like a mini countryside getaway without the two-hour drive down the M25.

While the children wear themselves out on the play equipment, you can enjoy top-tier pub classics, great local ales, and an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down. It’s warm, rustic, and effortlessly child-friendly without sacrificing the authentic pub atmosphere that adults actually want to hang out in.

At Olson Digital Marketing, we spend our days helping local businesses connect with their community. But on the weekends, I’m just a local dad looking for a great local spot where the food is good, the drinks are cold, and the kids are thoroughly entertained.

These three pubs hit the sweet spot every single time. So, next time the kids are bouncing off the living room walls, skip the soft play madness, head to one of these Orpington favorites, and enjoy a well-earned drink in the sun!
